TOC Integration Proposal — Draft for Discussion

Status: Proposal only. No Home edits until explicitly approved.

Context

Sessions 1-6 created four content layers that currently live outside the Home navigation:

Layer Cards Current Path
About Hyperon ~12 index + 6 Full companions About Hyperon+...
Cognitive Architectures PRIMUS + 9 advanced components + Full Cognitive Architectures+PRIMUS+...
Hyperon AI Algorithms PLN, MOSES, ECAN, MetaMo, etc. + Full Hyperon AI Algorithms+...
Implementation Families 10 families (~120 repos catalogued) Implementation Families+...
Applications 4 domain cards Applications+...
Technical Companions Index pointing to 15 +Full cards Technical Companions
Publication Maps 4 source maps Publication Maps+...
Knowledge Representations MORK, DAS, AtomSpace Knowledge Representations+...

These are discoverable via direct URL or search, but not linked from the Home table of contents.

Options

Option A: Minimal — Single “Hyperon Reference” entry

Add one entry to Home linking to a new landing page that indexes all the above. Keeps Home clean; adds one click of depth.

Pro: Zero clutter on Home. One decision point. Con: Hides the structure. New readers won’t know the reference layer exists.

Option B: Section-level — Add 3-4 entries to Home

Add top-level entries for the major navigational categories: - “About Hyperon” (architecture, components, safety) - “Applications” (Game AI, Robotics, Bio, Math) - “Implementation Reference” (families, publication maps, technical companions)

Pro: Balanced visibility. Groups related content logically. Con: Adds 3-4 items to Home. May not fit the wiki’s current tone (which leans toward games/business/notes).

Option C: Full integration — Mirror the content hierarchy

Add entries for each top-level path: About Hyperon, Cognitive Architectures, Hyperon AI Algorithms, Knowledge Representations, Implementation Families, Applications, Technical Companions, Publication Maps.

Pro: Complete discoverability. Every layer is one click from Home. Con: Doubles the Home TOC size. May overwhelm the existing structure.

Recommendation

Option B seems right. The wiki currently has Home sections for Overview, Weekly Work Summaries, Business Plan, Neoterics, Games, and Notes. Adding “About Hyperon”, “Applications”, and “Implementation Reference” (or similar) would extend this naturally without overwhelming it.

However, this decision should be made after the RawData pass is complete and all cards are at final quality. Integrating into Home navigation before that risks promoting incomplete content.

Dependencies

  • [ ] Comprehensive RawData pass (transcripts, remaining Mattermost, opencog-ml when available)
  • [ ] Final card review and promotion decisions (Draft → Published)
  • [ ] Decision on whether Technical Companions / Publication Maps are reader-facing or editor-facing tools

Next Steps

  1. Complete RawData survey phases (A, B, C per plan)
  2. Revisit this proposal when cards are at final quality
  3. Get explicit approval before any Home edits
